Greeting Cards by Dick LaFountain
I started painting the year of my retirement.
I chose the medium of watercolors thinking it would be the easiest for painting and cheap. How much can water cost anyway?
Though colorblind (color challenged would be a better description. Colors get mixed up, greens and browns, reds and browns, blue and purple, etc)
I decided to draw and paint what I see, the way I see it. You will find that I often use primary colors and bright colors are easier for me to see
than tones of colors. My wife is a great help when it comes to mixing colors.
My first attempts were pretty bad. I kept some of those first efforts as a reminder of from where I came. Gradually, reading tutorials,
watching YouTube videos and learning all I could, I started to get the hang of it. There were lots of "throw aways" during those months.
I finally got to the place where I felt I could do a decent drawing and paint my subject with some precision. At least I'm not ashamed of
my work and am happy to display it for others to enjoy. Besides that, I enjoy that challenge and it relaxes me. I hope you enjoy them too.
My paintings are available for sale. I will sell my origninals, though parting is always difficult. They are like my children and I hate to see them go.
You can also purchase them as "prints" or copies of the original for a fraction of the cost. (Look for me on Etsy, Zazzle, and Pinterest.) They are also
available as postcards and greeting cards.
